What is VRM?

VRM is a file format that is used for handling or operating humanoid 3D characters that are used in virtual reality applications.

A humanoid 3D character in VRM format can be easily recreated, as this file format can be accurately manipulated by an expert who knows what they are doing.

The VRM format is glTF based, which indicates that it is a cross platform format and can be used in different applications and on the web.

It first came to the limelight in Japan in 2018. Because of its ease of use, it has since grown to become a widely accepted 3D file format worldwide, including by commercial users.

VRM is popular because it ensures an easy 3D character modeling.

What is VRM used for?

3D characters are not developed or stored like other files are when they are to be used in VR applications. They are required to be created or converted to a VRM format.

The VRM file format is what keeps the 3D characters in check when used in VR applications. Without the VRM, the 3D characters will be completely displaced and function abnormally.

Everything that makes up a 3D project to be used in VR applications will come apart if not converted into a VRM format.

But all will remain intact and function accordingly in a single VRM file. The texture of the project, the characters, the environment, the object and other materials that make up the project will work well and efficiently in a platform-independent VRM file.
